Trackbacks
Trackbacks were introduced in earlier versions of WordPress as a way for websites to keep in touch with each other. When a WordPress site links to another, a ping-back will be sent to the second site by WordPress. This is a notification sent to the linked site. This footer notification normally appears as a comment left on the site’s post that indicates it has been referenced elsewhere.

Pingbacks
Pingbacks are just as important as trackbacks, since both pingbacks and trackbacks create inter-site communication. Nevertheless, pingbacks are an automated response that is sent by one WordPress site to another when the former links to the latter’s content.
